TV Guide
TV GUIDE
This is a special 1977 Godfather Part 2 TV Guide.
Hyman Roth and Michael Corleone
This Godfather 2 pic shows Hyman Roth (Lee Strasberg), left, talking to Michael Corleone, right, in Havanna, Cuba in 1958.

Roth had ordered a hit on Michael before this conversation, but was unsuccesful.

In retaliation for not only double-crossing Michael, but almost killing his wife, Kay, Michael ordered his bodyguard to kill Roth. Roth was lying in a hospital bed in a hospital in Havana, Cuba. Michael's bodyguard, after killing one of Roth's henchmen Johnny Ola, went to the hospital on New Year's Eve of 1959. As 1959 was seconds away, Cuban national guardsmen caught Michael's bodyguard with a pillow over Roth's head, about to smother him. The guardsmen opened fire on Michael's bodyguard and the hit was unsuccessful.

With his health failing, Hyman Roth got away on a private boat that night and went to Israel to try to gain citizenship in Israel to live there as a Jew but was turned down despite offering one million dollars to the Israeli government. He then went to Buenos Aires, Argentina to try to gain citizenship there. However, his passport was invalid in every country except for America. Roth was at a Miami airport after being ordered by the U.S. Government to return to America to be tried, Michael ordered one of his henchmen (Rocco Lampone) to kill Roth. As Roth was being interviewed by reporters, Rocco (disguised as a reporter) shot Roth in the stomach. Rocco tried to run away, but was shot and killed.

The hit on Roth was successful. Michael would later order the death of his brother, Fredo, who did business with Roth and Ola. Fredo, not knowing they were going to try to kill his brother Michael, did business with Roth and Ola with good intentions.

This pic from the Godfather Part 2 is Fredo Corleone, left, and Michael Corleone, right, drinking at an outdoor cafe in Havanna, Cuba.

At this point in the movie, Michael didn't know that Fredo did business with Hyman Roth, who ordered an unsuccessful hit on Michael.

Anthony Corleone
Anthony Corleone (Franc D'ambrosio)
Anthony is Michael Corleone's first child and is not interested in becoming a lawyer like his father wants him to. Instead, Anthony wants to be a professional singer. This picture is from the Godfather Part 3.
Connie Corleone's (Talia Shire) Wedding
The Godfather Part 1 (1972) begins with Connie's wedding in 1945. She marries Sonny's friend Carlo Rizzi (Gianni Russo). Rizzi was introduced to Connie by Sonny on December 7, 1941 (which was the day the family threw Vito Corleone a surprise birthday party).

Carlo was a very abusive husband. He frequently beat Connie. Despite a brutal beating from Sonny warning Carlo to never touch his sister again, Carlo beat Connie worse than ever in 1948.

After Sonny found out, he went to confront Carlo. He had to first cross a bridge to get to him and it was at this bridge that Sonny was ambushed and brutally machine-gunned to death. Carlo, knowing Sonny would come after him and have to stop at the toll booth, purposely beat Connie. Carlo set up Sonny's death in cooperation with enemy families.

Michael ordered Carlo's death in retaliation for setting up Sonny's death. This was shortly after Carlo's son was baptised and Michael swore to be the boy's sponsor (or Godfather).

Michael and Appolonia
Michael marries Appolonia in Corleone, Sicily
In 1946, when Michael went on the "lamb" after killing Sollozzo and Captain McCluckey back in America, Michael married a beautiful, young Sicilian girl named Appolonia (Simonetta Stefanelli).

They loved each other very much. She loved driving, at least trying to. When Michael was told by Don Tomassino that it was no longer safe for him to be in Sicily, he went to go to his car to leave. However, his wife went in instead.

When Michael noticed one of his bodyguards walking away and looking back at Michael with a strange face, Michael knew there was trouble. When Appolonia started Michael's car, it exploded and she died instantly.

Hands Up
Carmine Rosato
This is Carmine Rosato (Carmine Caridi) firing his weapon (in the Godfather part 2). His brother Tony Rosato (Danny Aiello) tried to strangle Frank Pentangeli (Michael V. Gazzo) at Hyman Roth's (Lee Strasberg) orders inside a bar. As Carmine distracted Pentangeli by offering him a cigar and making small talk celebrating their new deal, Tony got up behind Pentangeli and said, "Michael Corleone says 'Hello'!" and then began strangling him with a garrot (a Sicilian wire-like weapon). However a police officer walked in before Tony could strangle Pentangeli completely and Tony wisely dumped Pentangeli's half-dead body in a closet. The police officer began talking to the bartender. This police officer was sent in by Roth to thwart the Rosato's attempt at killing Frank. This way, Pentangeli could stay alive to testify with the thought that Michael Corleone had ordered this hit. When he (the cop) noticed Pentangeli's body in the closet that Tony Rosato put him in, Carmine drew his weapon. Then all hell broke loose.

The bartender yelled, "No Carmine not here!". Then several of Rosato's men came running from the back room of the bar and knocked over the cop. The cop quickly got up, drew his pistol and then chased after the Rosatos. The Rosato brothers (realizing they had been betrayed by someone) and their goons went out on the street and had a deadly shootout with Willi Cicci and Pentangeli's other mobsters. Pentangeli was told by Michael that he was in the bar to make a deal with the Rosatos (who constantly disrespected him and his crime family) to make the peace. Michael wanted Roth (who was allied with the Rosatos) to be confident in his friendship with Michael so that he could find out who betrayed him and almost had him and his wife Kay killed in their home.

Tony Rosato's remark about Michael Corleone saying hello was part of Roth's strategy to make Pentangeli believe Corleone ordered the hit. Pentangeli couldn't understand that Michael's attempt to remain friendly with Roth was strategy not personal. However, Pentangeli was not as smart as Michael and could not appreciate his position. This, in turn, led Pentangeli to agree to testify against Michael. Pentangeli had no choice because he and Willi Cicci were arrested after the shootout on murder charges, bookmaking, and a lot more so a plea bargain was in his best interest.
Roth engineered the perfect downfall for Michael: A perfectly alive Frank Pentangeli with nothing to lose that wanted revenge against Michael. The way he could get it was to tell all. However, it wouldn't work out that way.

Michael (left) and Fabrizio (right)
This photo below is of Michael and his bodyguard Fabrizo (Angelo Infanti) in Sicily in the Godfather. Fabrizio planted a bomb in Michael's car and Michael's Sicilian wife Appolonia was the unfortunate person to start the car and it exploded. In the Godfather Part 2, we find out that Fabrizio was hired by the Barzini crime family and that he changed his name to Fred Vincent, moved to America and opened a pizzeria in Buffalo, NY. Michael was shown a picture of "Fred Vincent" by Al Neri to confirm their suspisions and Michael said it was him.

A bomb was planted in Fabrizio's car and one night after Fabrizio had closed up his pizzeria, he started his car and it blew up. He stumbled out of the car only to die shortly after...serves him right!
